Kitsuné Club Night @ XOYO 17.06.11

If you've ever seen IS TROPICAL live you'll know that's reason enough to go to this night. Added to that, of course, is the fact that it's coming to us from sickeningly cool fashion and music label Kitsuné and the Neon Noise Project. This Friday Shoreditch's XOYO will be imploding from within with live sets from Yuksek and others, DJ sets from Vice favourites TEETH!!! and a room curated by art darlings Off Modern.

Standard tickets are still going for £12, and entry goes up on the night. Worth it.

See the Facebook event here for more details.

Club Autonomic @ Fabric

Club Autonomic will be hosting the tunes at Fabric:Live in Room 2 this Friday. Sounds like it's going to be rad all round, so forget the fact that it's Friday the 13th and just party.

Keep It On The DL: May

We headed back to the Old Blue for another instalment of live music and japes from Keep It On The DL. This month we got to revel in the greatness of music from Birmingham-based band The Bombergs (above), and the ukelele-tinged sweetness of Family.

The Bombergs play bouncy, electrifying rock with a playful and poppy edge to it. There's Talking Heads wildness written all over this, but they've really got the energy on stage to pull it off. On top of that, singer James Rea was a total sweetheart.
The Bombergs' James Rea
Next up we enjoyed the lo-fi (or rather, self-proclaimed 'ho-fi') of the quirky boys from Family. Their long-hair-falling-over-eyes look worked really well with the reverb-heavy songs they shared. They also threw beautiful glitter bombs all over the Old Blue's top floor. Anyone who left without a few flecks clearly wasn't dancing about in the front enough.
Overall, it was another great night from the crew at Keep It On The DL. The music had that perfect balance of variety, danceability and the energy to set us up for a great Friday night. We'll see you at the June edition, guys.
Keep up with all things On The DL via their Facebook profile and Twitter page. Big shout to organiser Steve (above) for putting together another awesome night.

Very Important Plectrums x Ben Sherman

From May 29th, Ben Sherman will be linking up with charities Lifebeat and Trekstock to launch an online plectrum auction project that sounds amazing. Here's the premise: top musicians sign their own plectrums, offer them up for auction and 100% of proceeds go towards educating young people about HIV/AIDS prevention and combating cancer. The key here is harnessing music as a force for good. What about that don't we like?

So far Mark Ronson, Anna Calvi, Frankie & the Heartstrings, Emmylou Harris, Paul Weller and We Are Scientists are just some of those involved. The collaboration launches with a secret gig in London that we'll be able to tell you some more about later. For now we can say that you're not gonna want to miss the headliner! You can win gig tickets, plus two nights free hotel accommodation in the city if you apply by tomorrow. Click here for more.

Short Back 'n' Sides x SME

The lovely crew over at We Are SME blog are curating a barbershop-cum-club night that sounds so rad. It's gonna be the debut for a monthly event run by Short Back 'n' Sides, and is all kicking off tomorrow from 6pm til the trimmers turn blunt.

We're talking West African barbershop art from SBNS, free haircuts, and a nail bar all on the ground floor at Blackall Studios in Shoreditch. Then, after you get your hair did, you can head downstairs for hip-hop, soul, dubstep and funk DJ sets from SBNS record spinners til sunrise. SME have been doing great things recently, and just had a feature on BBC 6 Music, so will be well worth partying with.

The Haunt Launch Party

Brighton's newest club launched on Thursday night and we were there to join the party. The Haunt has taken over where New Hero left off, and served up an awesome opening night featuring Mirrors, Is Tropical, Romy XX and Kim Ann Foxman (Hercules and Love Affair).

Backed by an amazing promo team, this club looks set for great, fun things. Head down tonight for their infamous 80s night (of the non-cheesy and weak variety) 'It Is Still 1985' and keep an eye out for their upcoming events. Word on the street: Yelle's coming.
