Amelie renewed our love for French cinema. We fell in love with Audrey Tautou, with her effortless chic style, her graceful screen prescence and undeniable talent. So now meet Emilie (see what they did there?!), Audrey's latest character in new movie Beautiful Lies.
So replace the first vowel of her character's name with another and what do you find? An edgy new look (complete with tattoos) but the same old cute Amelie. Always trying to help everyone else be happy and forgetting about herself in the process.
She is funny, cute and charismatic and completely lovable. Be prepared to fall in love with her all over again.
But although Audrey is once again our main star, it is Emilie’s mother, Maddy, played by Nathalie Baye, that steals the show.
She is hilarious as the heartbroken mum, who instanly becomes an obsessed lovesick puppy, once she receives a mystery love letter in the post. Little does she know, that the letter is in fact from her daughter, in a desperate attempt to cheer her up. Cue the many embarrassing mom moments (cringe)!
It’s chaotic, romantic and beautifully directed. You will love it.
