Are you a woman? Are you trying to make it in the film industry? Well this could be the festival for you! Despite the era of bra-burning and politically hairy legs being well behind us, it seems that feminism didn’t really make that much of an impression on the film world and, somewhat depressingly, women still represent only a tiny proportion of film creatives. Joining the brilliant Birds Eye View festival which makes its female filmmaking mark on the cultural calender in March, UnderWire festival was launched in November 2010 as a response to this massive imbalance and looks to recognize and encourage the best short work made by women across a range of crafts - from director to cinematographer, screenwriter to editor - with the hope of moving towards a fairer industry.
