Roseboy and Friends

Part 1

Part 2

VICE has premiered a new documentary on VICE.COM entitled Rose Boy. The documentary short, presented by Billie Porter (Channel 4, Jalouse, NME, Dazed & Confused), explores the concept of celebrity obsession in today’s youth culture, through an exploration of its extremes and margins. Filmed over the course of 2010/11 the film follows four celebrity obsessives to explore their motivations and the highs (and lows) that today’s celebrity culture is able to generate.

The two part documentary is named after Harvii a 12 year old self styled ‘super-fan’ who leapt to his own form of stardom after an image of him attempting to give Megan Fox a Rose went viral. Filmmakers Billie Porter and Jamie Lee Curtis Taete befriended Harvii by accident one evening and felt that he epitomised the zenith of celebrity culture which has overtaken the UK. Rose Boy also follows Danilo, a Brazilian who has moved to the UK in the hope of fulfilling his lifelong dream of meeting all the Spice Girls. Sam, a La Roux obsessive who has changed his image and name in the singers honour and finally 40 year old Steve who has covered his body in celebrity tattoos ranging from Shania Twain to his latest Billy Connolly as he goes in search of Billy to sign his latest artwork.
