Alter Ego Exhibition

The exhibition brings 7 artists from various cities in the UK delivering an exhibition of brand new artwork with a variety of styles and techniques. With work from Cottonmouth, Guy McKinley, Klingatron, Robert Ball, Smug, Waste and WJC exploring the idea of having a second identity, as modern society becomes more virtual, individuals are able to project an image of themselves that allows separation from reality bringing with it a perceived identity of fearless power and confidence. From photorealistic graffiti to illustration with each artist studying the theme of a second personality through a mutual influence of popular culture comic books with the artists transforming the Red Bull Studios exhibition space into a comic inspired vault.

The Art of Front.

FRONT magazine is best known for it's gorgeous, tattooed, stylish and not to mention half naked beauties. Next Monday sees them joining up with some amazing artists including French, Luke Dixon, Andres Guzman, Paul Jackson and many more to showcase their work. Drinks will be supplied by Camden Town Brewery + Kraken Rum. As well as music from Karistocat.

Eighteen of FRONT magazine’s favorite artists were handpicked and asked to produce an original piece of art specifically for the gallery. Each artist has taken inspiration from FRONT’s cover models and reinterpreted iconic FRONT images in their own unique styles.

The gallery will also display casts of the FRONT models’ breasts, transformed into custom art pieces by selected artists. These will be auctioned at a later date and all proceeds will be donated to the Keep A Breast Foundation.

A limited run of two-colour screen prints including the framed pieces on display will be available to buy at the gallery and at a later date, digital print editions will be available to purchase from the FRONT website, frontarmy.com.

Kev Munday Exhibition at the O2 Arena, London.

Kev Munday was asked to put together a show to fill this window space at the 02 Arena in London by the guys at Graffiti Life. Over 8000 people a day walk past this area so naturally Kev jumped at the chance.

This is up until 17th January, just outside the entrance to the O2.

INSA - Girls on Bikes.

Well known artist INSA lands his first UK exhibition for his recent photography project Girls on Bike. This exhibition proved to be a hit recently in Hong Kong. INSA brings it home to 18 Hewett Street.

Plans For London’s Most Public Art Gallery Announced.

Plans for London’s ‘most public art gallery’ have today been announced, with Great Eastern Street in east London being turned into a living outdoor art space for 2012.
The people behind Village Underground, are turning the gallery concept not just on it’s head, but inside out, to mark their fifth birthday. ‘The Wall’ gallery will showcase emerging, established and international artists throughout 2012 with bi-monthly exhibitions of mixed arts. Village Underground will collaborate with partners such as Moniker Projects who represent artists including Ben Eine and Matt Small.

Urban art, interactive, mix-media and other disciplines will all be screened on 4m x3m brick canvases on Great Eastern Street, which sees 10 million cars pass each year – more ‘visitors’ than the Tate, National Gallery and Barbican combined. International artists will also get their chance to exhibit in London by submitting their work to a creative panel.

The gallery will be publicly-funded via ‘crowd-funding’. The team behind the gallery concept are looking raise £20,000 through crowd-funding site, Kickstarter. People can pledge as little as £1 and can receive a variety of rewards for their support, including special artist workshops and limited edition artwork. The project has 55 days to raise the full amount.

Slow Tech: Designs for Digital Downtime

Right now you’re on a computer. Your phone is probably lying by your side. And it’s likely you’re about to check your Facebook feed in the next ten minutes. It’s good to be connected. But is all this time we're spending staring at screens good for us? Are there alternative ways to get our connectivity fix? Have we become a little too dependent on technology?

So, this is exactly what we were thinking the other day when ordering our takeaway - we literally pressed a few buttons on an iPhone app and bam it was ordered, e-mailed to us for confirmation and shipped out to us, all we had to say was 'Cheers!' to the delivery man. I mean don't get us wrong we LOVE the internet, blogging, social media, PR, I mean we are a blog after all but it really is starting to get a bit anti social huh?

For this year’s London Design Festival, Protein has teamed up with Wallpaper* magazine’s Editor-at-Large Henrietta Thompson to create an exhibition called Slow Tech that explores the importance of digital downtime.

Opens on 17th September 2011 and will run until the end of London Design Festival.

Free Range Photography Showcase

Edinburgh Napier University are kicking off a long weekend of photography and film until Monday. Starting tonight, you can head over to Brick Lane's Old Truman Brewery to soak in the dynamic and beautiful work from their new graduates. Max Eastley, Takehisa Kosugi, Walter Marchetti and Resonance 104.4fm

Takehisa Kosugi (born 1938, Japan) and Walter Marchetti (born 1931, Italy).
Each artist has developed a distinct approach to the problem of representing
immateriality, while sharing a lightness of touch, approaching sound with patience,
restraint and fidelity. As well as presenting new and historic work, the exhibition
will comprise live performance, and a selection of material from the artists'
substantial archives.

Max Eastley is an artist and musician whose sound sculptures play on a balance
between the natural environment and human intervention. His musical
collaborations include the 1975 album New And Rediscovered Musical Instruments
with David Toop, produced by Brian Eno. His response to the interior of Raven
Row will be a meditation on the 18th century Picturesque, achieved with 21st
century technology and a ‘Bergsonian’ approach to time.

This exhibition runs from 9 June to 17 July 2011 and is located at Raven Row – 56 Artillery Lane, London E1 7 LS.

SIX by Kevin Morosky

On Wednesday night Bloomsbury's Orange Dot Gallery opened its doors to all sorts of wonderful and talented people for Kevin Morosky's (above) photography private view. He's been making quite a name for himself recently, with an awesome interview up on Dazed Digital and a beautiful collection of photos. In fact, when he showed us the back catalogue, a ridiculous amount of photos.

Morosky was kind enough to chat directly to us about the project, filling us in on how he uses his friends as inspiration, never likes to shoot a staged picture and works almost exclusively with film. He's always got a little camera to hand, saying how his friends used to find the lens intrusive "but now they're just used to having it around all the time". We love how his un-touched photos look like what Hispatamic users wish they could create organically. It takes real skill to manipulate light and film as he does, and we give him props for that.

Special guest Marques Toliver (above) went on to play a set for the other attendees at the exhibition launch, and he's also one to watch this year. SIX by Kevin Morosky runs at the Orange Dot Gallery until Thursday June 30th, so do check it out. There are several beautifully captured moments to see. Big thanks to everyone at Orange Dot, Morosky and Toliver for being so lovely to us.

Lydia Garnett and Vic Lentaigne are two emerging female photographers who will be showcasing their photographs of youth culture and documentary fashion in a collaborative and exclusive exhibition. 

Garnett and Lentaigne met and studied together at Brighton University, where they explored the themes of fashion, youth culture, transition, sexuality and identity. They photographed their friends and pushed the boundaries of documentary portraiture. 

Since graduating, the pair have moved to London to work on a number of photographic projects and founded the collaborative platform, LGVL. 

Their debut show is a fresh and exciting collection of photographs, taken from two separate perspectives with a shared attitude. The exhibition follows their transition from Brighton to London and explores their current relationship as a photographic duo.

Jealous Gallery: Exhibition - 31st March to 24th April

Jealous Needs You is a showcase for illustrators and graphic artists. Each artist in the show was selected by the Jealous team from hundreds of submissions made over the last year. Every successful submission has been made into a 2 colour screenprint, all A3 in size and each priced at £60, creating a brand new portfolio of prints with a strong graphic style.

Many of the artists involved have been invited to exhibit other work alongside their print. Including mobiles, 3D wall pieces, drawings, paintings, books and badges the Jealous Needs You project aims to present these fantastically creative graphic designers and illustrators to you in a playful and humorous exhibition.

This exhibitions runs from Thursday 31st March 2011 to Sunday 24th April 2011.

EXHIBITION: Pens and Needles

PENS AND NEEDLES- A contemporary exhibition celebrating the realisation of tattoo art,
culture, and lifestyle.

The opening night of Pens and Needles will be a unique fiesta of tattoo art with live music performances and live tattooing
taking place in London Miles’s very own pop-up tattoo parlour. The exhibition will document, discuss and most importantly
celebrate one of contemporary art’s most burgeoning yet contentious art forms.

Tattoo art has helped shape cultures, trends, and identities across history, from ancient Maori and Japanese tattoo art to the markings of
gang members and, latterly, modern day trendsetters. With the affirmation of body art as an essential fashion accessory, tattoo art’s
cultural visibility and status continues to rise significantly. Whether it is images of Lenny Kravitz bedecked in inky splendour, or the
reporting of new trends such as ‘white ink’ tattoo’s as sported by Kate Moss, tattoo art has undeniably established itself as a prominent
and accepted facet of popular culture.

This exhibition features some of the best artists including Shawn Barber, Alex young, Holy Fox, Claudia Saube and many more.

Eric Yahnker

We absolutely love anything art filled with a slight tinge of weirdness here at Deer Brains and this has totally hit the nail on the head. We get excited by these images and wished we lived in L.A to go to this exhibition.

Yahnker was born in Torrance, CA in 1976 and currently resides in Los Angeles, CA. His work has been featured in NY Arts Magazine, It's nice that, Cool Hunting, Beautiful Decay, Nylon and plenty more publications.

Canned Candies

A lovely exhibition of iconic orginal vintage photography by Jean Clemmer. Exploring fatasy, sensuality and haute couture in 1960s Paris.

Jean Clemmer (1926-2001) was a French painter, musician, and photographer who began taking photographs in 1962, following a Fine Arts degree in 1945. In 1962 Clemmer met both Salvador Dalí and fashion designer Paco Rabanne. He had first discovered the Surrealist movement by reading seminal publication Minotaure and fostered a close professional and personal relationship with Salvador Dalí. Living out the rest of the swinging sixties in Paris, Clemmer continued practicing as a photographer and artist until his death in 2001.

This exhibitions runs from 26 November - 18th December 2010.
